NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
PhD and Masters
I accept graduate students through programs in Sustainability, Biology, and Economics. I typically bring on 1-2 new graduate students a year (including Masters and PhD). Please contact me well in advance of the ASU application deadlines. Provide a brief description of your background and research interests. Please recognize that I receive a lot of email and so it may take me some time to respond. Feel free to contact me again if you do not receive a response at first. Persistence can pay off!
Please note that, while I am committed to interdisciplinary research, my expertise is in the application of economic methods to resource management problems. Therefore I expect the students I advise to acquire and apply the quantitative toolbox of economics in their thesis research. As a minimum requirement, I require all my PhD advisees, regardless of program, to complete the Graduate Certificate in Environmental and Sustainability Economics (or an equivalent cadre of courses). Most of my students begin their graduate studies with some prior quantitative training in economics, multivariate calculus and statistics. |
